What is ASATA’s Professional Programme?

Objective

The purpose of the ASATA Professional Programme (APP) is to enhance the competency levels and skills of travel advisors through ongoing training and development while simultaneously helping them keep abreast with Travel Industry trends, both Nationally and Globally.

The APP is designed to equip travel advisors with the tools to establish what knowledge and expertise they require to become confident advisors. Participation in the APP will also reinforce their role as travel experts providing a professional service when dealing with their clients within the travel industry.

Description

The APP is an ASATA Certification Programme open to any travel advisor who is an ASATA Members.

  • There are two programmes available, each focusing on travel advisors at different stages in their career i.e. Certified Travel Advisor (CTA) and Certified Professional Travel Advisor (CPTA)
  • Each provides a standardised and consistent method of skills analysis amongst travel advisors
  • APP Certified Travel Advisors use the CTA and/or CPTA Title acronyms behind their name (Jane Smith, CTA) on business cards and e-mail signatures
  • Upon completion of all programme requirements, they are permitted to continue using the  title, provided they renew their certification  every three years
  • The APP’s primary aim is to cultivate the highest level of professionalism among its certified travel advisors
  • The APP is an online programme which gauges a travel advisor’s competency in five core areas of skill i.e. Operational Skills, Destination Skills, Service Skills, Business Skills and Computer Skills

Who can participate in the ASATA Professional Programme

The APP is open to any travel advisor who has practical experience within the Southern African Travel Industry and is an ASATA member.

What are the requirements to apply for the ASATA designations?

  • Certified Travel Advisor (CTA)

Pre-requisites:

  • A minimum of two (2) years practical working experience within the Southern African Travel Industry
  • A minimum Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 Qualification
  • A Global Distribution Systems Qualification (GDS)
  • Must be an ASATA member to register

Time to complete:
The program can be done at your own pace, but must be completed within 3 months of registration

  • Certified Professional Travel Advisor (CPTA)

Pre-requisites:

  • A minimum of five (5) years practical working experience within the Southern African Travel Industry
  • A minimum Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 Qualification
  • A Global Distribution Systems Qualification (GDS)
  • Must be an ASATA member to register

Time to complete:
The program can be done at your own pace, but must be completed within 3 months of registration

What skills are required to achieve Certification through the ASATA Professional Programme

The core range of skills required have been arranged into 5 Competency Clusters i.e.

  • Service Skills
  • Business Skills
  • Computer Skills

What is the cost to join the APP?

  • A once-off registration fee is required for all registrations onto the APP database.
  • A Certification Fee is required at time of application for the certificate and thereafter a renewal fee on expiry of certificate.
